Mechanical Machine Builder - Posted July 11th, 2024

General Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Machine Builder to join our dynamic team.  This role involves assembling a wide variety of complex machines that require precise dimensions and adherence to strict inspection criteria.  The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose issues and the skills required to efficiently communicate those issues to ensure optimal performance of machines.  This position also requires the ability to perform service and installations at customer sites, with up to 20% travel.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Read and interpret complex assembly blueprints, specifications manuals, and assembly plans.
  1. Follow detailed station assembly prints and positions, aligns, and fasten units to the assemblies/subassemblies/frames using hand and/or power tools.
  2. Set switches and pneumatic flow controls, per station specifications.
  3. Position, align, and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly.
  4. Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements are met.
  5. Verify conformance of parts to stock lists or blueprints using a variety of precision measuring instruments and gauging devices.
  6. Set up and operate metalworking machines, such as milling or grinding machines, to shape/fabricate parts.
  7. Implement needed changes to station assemblies, and documents changes in accordance with company policy.
  8. Recommend and implement plan to line up station/substation assemblies in accordance with company policy. 
  9. Perform equipment maintenance, as required.
  10. May build prototypes from sketches or plans.
  11. May connect cables, tubes and wiring, according to specifications.
  12. Observes all safety rules, applicable regulations, and relevant ISO standards.
  13. Reports unsafe conditions and needed repairs to the department manager.

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional college coursework related to design and basic mechanical principles preferred.
  2. 3 to 5 years of highly skilled experience in mechanical assembly required.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of attention to detail.
  4. Proven experience working effectively in a team environment
  5. Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and to make metric system conversions are required.

Physical Demands Required:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or touch, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move from place to place.  The employee will occasionally sit and use foot/feet to operate machinery, and occasionally climb, balance, and reach above shoulders.  Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision and depth perception.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 40 lbs. 

 

Work Environment

General Summary:

Mechanical Design Engineer position working for a rapidly growing custom automation company building machines for the Life Sciences industry.  Responsibility includes designing automation (assemblies and sub-assemblies), fixtures, and prototypes, performing equipment debugging, supporting applications, interfacing with customers to understand requirements, designing to safety standards, and applying mechanical engineering principles to the implementation of automation. This role can have an estimated 15% travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Design automation (assemblies and subassemblies), retrofits, fixtures, and prototypes.
  2. Interface with customers to understand system requirements and resolve design issues encountered.
  3. Document customer requirements to capture design intent and develop designs that incorporate said intent.
  4. Document and maintain revisions to existing automated systems.
  5. Work with team members to create integrated design between multiple stations and designers on large machines.
  6. Incorporate proven, readily available technology into design based on customer or project requirements.
  7. Identify correct motors, actuators, slides, heaters, grippers, and electrical components for specific design application.
  8. Update Test Plan to capture design requirements that commissioning will use to test the machine according to User Requirement Specifications.

 Application Engineer General Summary:

A successful Application Engineer (AE) will be able to research & develop concepts, create budgets and quotes to support customer requests for quote activities. The AE will team up with an Account Manager (AM) or Business Development Manager (BDM) throughout this process.  The AE will from time to time also participate in customer presentations.  The AEs primary focus is on customer quotes, with a secondary focus of supporting customer development and project Q&A.
