    Project Manager

    Project Manager

    R+D Custom Automation, a leading, fast-paced manufacturer of custom automation equipment for the medical industry, is seeking a highly motivated, business-savvy individual to join their Project Management team.

    Key driver in R+D Custom Automations successful planning and completion of projects.

    Accountabilities:

    • Manage all aspects of projects.
    • Close interface with Account Manager (AM). Coordinating Customer Communication
    • Oversight to manage SOW for each project. Ensuring alignment between customer URS, R+D Quote, Budget, etc.
    • Engage R+D Account Manager to go through a hand-off for all new projects, including conceptual intentions, budget, URS, delivery, customer perspective, etc.
    • Create initial project schedule and review with OPS Leadership Team.
    • Work with each OPS Leadership position to secure resources to align with project plan needs.
    • Coordinate all project-relevant meetings internal and external.
    • Interface with R+D Integrator Partners as needed to meet project plan needs.
    • Travel as necessary
    • Coordinate all project interactions across all R+D departments, with suppliers, Integrator Partners, Customers, etc.
    • Support OPS Leadership Team to ensure all R+D processes are followed to ensure the best result for your project(s).
    • Manage your project(s) in a manner that aligns with the Accelerated Project Start Initiative.
    • Oversee project budget and report status on a bi-weekly basis.
    • Create as part of the project plan, a cost & cash flow projection, including projected profit at completion.
    • Maintain weekly Project Management Tools (% of Complete, Project Schedule, Project Dashboard, Master Project Schedule, etc.)
    • Engage with R+D’s Database as a means to review Project Cost Sheets and verify accuracies.
    • Interact with Project Coordinator regarding Project Schedule, Travel / Field Service Planning, Long Lead Items, Procurement Planning, etc.
    • Engage with Project Coordinator to plan out the Project Milestones (invoicing) and share with Finance Mgr.
    • Coordinate all shipping arrangements with the R+D Materials Logistics Team as well as the Finance Team for customer invoicing purposes.
    • Approve supplier invoices as needed.
    • Communicate the required support needed to the Project Coordinator for all Project Documentation (Manuals, compliance, etc.) Timing of Operations & Maintenance Manuals, etc.
    • Share Project Plan with Project Coordinator as a means to gain support for all critical Procurement interface and priorities based on the project schedules.
    • Share with the Project Coordinator to gain support for all the Project Long Lead items sourced through Procurement.
    • Share with the Project Coordinator to gain support for all necessary Project requisitions (s) to align with project plans/schedules.
    • Help to develop, train and follow all Project Mgmt. QS Processes & procedures.
    • Support all department-level ISO documents and overall QS (under the guidance of Sr. Leadership)
    • Learn and become a contributor to the R+D EOS business system.
    • Facilitate all initial Project Alignments at time of project start. (Customer URS, Specifications, Expectations, R+D Quote, Budget and Project Plan)
    • Develop & Support Early/Accelerated Project Planning Process. Then facilitate the activity for all projects going through the “Early/Accelerated Project Plan Process. (Schedule, Aggressive Rating, Long Leads, Requisitioning, Resource Particulars, Partner Involvements, Strategies for Fab, Panel Build, Resource exchange, etc.)
    • Support, Train & Follow overall QS Process Flow for R+D (with Guidance of Sr. Leadership)

    Knowledge and Skills Required 

    • At least 3-5 years in Project Management.
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred either in a technical or business major

    Controls Engineer/Electrical Engineer

    Reports To:

    Electrical Engineering Manager

    General Summary:

    Controls Engineering role working for a rapidly growing custom automation company that makes equipment for the Life Sciences industry. Responsibilities include control systems design and implementation on fast paced, large-scale automation projects. In this role, you will design controls systems, program PLCs, HMIs, robots, vision systems, and other proven, off-the-shelf technologies, and lead the startup of equipment (debugging and commissioning) both onsite and at customer facilities. This role has an estimated 15% travel requirement.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Design schematics, electrical panels, and develop BOMs to meet specifications.
    • Perform programming on PLCs, robots, HMIs, and vision systems.
    • Research components and integrated equipment and select electrical components that are field tested from partnered vendors.
    • Ensure equipment meets all safety rules, applicable regulations, and relevant OSHA standards.
    • Perform automation debug and commissioning.
    • Support installation of equipment and equipment startup at customers’ sites.
    • Create documents to transfer information to Electrical Assembly and Commissioning departments on machine design.
    • Create testing and run off parameters to verify machine operating as designed.
    • Create BOMs from customer requirements.
    • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering on station flow charts.
    • Translate flow chart to sequence steps in Controls Document.
    • Assist in preparing estimates and quotes.
    • Act as technical electrical controls resource/support for company sales staff.
    • Stay current in new developments within industries served. Keep informed of new applications/methods to improve systems/products.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or comparable knowledge/experience required.

    2. At least 5 years experience is required

    3. Proven strong aptitude with computers and learning new systems.

    4. Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

    5. Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming.

    6. Experience with AutoCAD.

    7. Preferred experience with an Original Equipment Manufacturer in the Life Sciences industry.

    8. Proven experience working effectively in a team environment.

    9. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and employees.

    10. Working knowledge of all MS Office applications.

    11. Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, blueprints, etc.

    12. Ability to work with complex mathematical concepts.

    13. Up to 15% travel required.

    Physical Demands Required:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be required to sit/stand, use hands to fingers, tools, and controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move drawings, files, parts, and systems weighing up to 40 pounds.     Work Environment:

    Mechanical Engineer

    Mechanical Design Engineer

    General Summary

    •  Mechanical Design Engineer position working for a rapidly growing custom automation company building machines for the Life Sciences industry. Responsibility includes: designing automation (assemblies and sub-assemblies), fixtures, and prototypes, performing equipment debugging, supporting applications, interfacing with customers to understand requirements, designing to safety standards, and applying mechanical engineering principles to the implementation of automation. This role can have an estimated 10% travel.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes, but is not limited to:

    • Design automation (assemblies and subassemblies), retrofits, fixtures, and prototypes.
    • Interface with customers to understand system requirements and resolve design issues encountered.
    • Document customer requirements to capture design intent and develop designs that incorporate said intent.
    • Document and maintain revisions to existing automated systems.
    • Work with team members to create integrated design between multiple stations and designers on large machines.
    • Incorporate proven, readily available technology into design based on customer or project requirements.
    • Identify correct motors, actuators, slides, heaters, and grippers for specific design application.
    • Update Test Plan to capture design requirements that commissioning will use to test the machine according to User Requirement Specifications.
    • Design automation to OSHA and NFPA standards.
    • Mitigate operator risk of machine operation, usage, maintenance, or machine failure during design. Use safety sensors in critical areas to ensure operator and machine safety.
    • Anticipate possible failure modes of machine operation that cause harm to the operator, machine, product, or environment and alter the design to eliminate or minimize it.
    • Create drawings with detailing of parts and assemblies including dimensions, callouts, tolerances, and material specifications.
    • Creates comprehensive build plans for the mechanical assemblers to accurately assemble/build to print.
    • Develop and release bill of materials including stock material and commercials to purchasing.
    • Communicate to Fabrication critical features, dimensions, materials, and tolerances.
    • Evaluate and troubleshoot automation when problems arise during commissioning and propose recommendations for resolving equipment issues.
    • Act as a technical mechanical design resource/support for company sales staff.
    • Support applications by providing automation concepts and concept drawings in preparation of estimates and quotes.
    • Stay current in new developments within industries served. Keeps informed of new applications and methods to improve systems or products.
    • Observe all safety rules, applicable regulations, and relevant ISO standards.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or comparable knowledge/experience required.
    • At least 5 years experience is required
    • Strong and demonstrated mechanical design aptitude and skilled in 2D and 3D CAD (AutoCAD and SolidWorks). SolidWorks PDM experience preferred.
    • Strong preference for prior automation design experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Proven experience working effectively in a team environment.
    • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and team members.
    • Working knowledge of all MS Office applications.
